Lesson Notes:

  • Balance is not a place but an ability.
  • Balance is the ability to maintain your axis, within your base of support, with minimal postural sway.
  • Large compensatory movements get in the way of you keeping good balance.
  • Your axis runs vertically through your body. It runs from the crown of your head to the bottom of your foot.
  • You have achieved good balance when you can maintain your axis without moving too much or creating unnecessary tension.
  • When vertical you axis allows you to stand upright, rotate effortlessly, and pivot smoothly.
